Welcome Willow Elementary
The Food Systems Project is excited our fourth school garden program this spring (2010) with
Willow Elementary School! Over 200 students started seeds for their classroom's garden plots
and transplanted plants and new seeds into the garden in May. Each classroom prepared and
sampled ten recipes, like spinach pizza and fresh salsa, and learned about nutrition and food
pyramid placement of the foods they prepared. After School Garden Club and Summer Garden
Camp kids continued to care for the garden, did arts and crafts, played games and sampled
dozens of new recipes.
Thank You Donors and Volunteers!
- MSU Recycling provided the lumber for the beds
- Paramount Coffee provided the bags for pathways
- The Board of Water and Light provided the woodchips
- The Garden Project provided the compost, seeds, and funds for the picnic table
- Clyde Baldwin, Caleb Kisor and Chuck Dulcie helped build the garden bed and the
picnic table
- Volunteers and students provided hours of intensive labor (THANK YOU!)
The Willow School Garden is in need of volunteers to help water, weed and assist in the
classrooms. This garden is also in need of the following items: hand shovels, hand cultivators,
30 pairs of various size garden gloves, 5 gallon buckets, shovels, hoes, and rakes. If you would
like to volunteer or donate for the Willow Garden, please contact Joy at 999-2894.
